First of all, I thank you all for the overwhelming response and the love which you regularly send in the form of comments, I read them all. And so now welcome to the second part of ‘BE SUCCESSFUL’ article series. (If you missed our first part, then you can check it here, BE SUCCESSFUL 01). Today we will be talking about the first step towards success and that is, DREAM & GOAL. This is a quite lengthy and vast topic and so, this is the first part of goal setting, importance of goal setting which will be followed by A.W.E.S.O.M.E. goal setting strategy and then Plan B strategy and then the last part of goal setting: It’s never too late to start. And a lot more, for now let’s peep into our today’s topic, ‘IMPORTANCE OF GOAL SETTING’.
Let me start with a quote by Jim Rohn…
“We humans are affected by five things: the environment- whether physical, social or political; events- in our family, community, nation or the world; the results we have achieved or failed to achieve; knowledge; and DREAMS.
We can’t disregard the environment, events make up our lives, results reward us with assets or liabilities, knowledge is wealth but ‘DREAMS SHAPE OUR FUTURE.’
–Jim Rohn. (The Keys to Success)
The very first step towards success is ‘DREAM‘ because everything starts with a dream-a fascinating imagination. But what next to convert the dream into reality? Well, for that, you need to first convert your dream into a ‘GOAL’.
Your vision of where or what you want to be is the greatest asset you have. Without having a goal it’s difficult to score
GOAL SETTING:- ( First step towards SUCCESS )
First and foremost in order to succeed (be successful), you must know where you want to reach. Because if you don’t know where you want to reach then you will sail wherever the wind blows you. If you yourself don’t know your destination then you will be just roaming like an animal in the way of your life who has no destination to reach, no target to hit upon and it’s USELESS, and so you will just waste full of your life and leave this material world without any trace, see life is a precious gift and you must know the purpose of your life in order to SUCCEED.
“The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score.”
– Bill Copeland
Have you ever met people who live life passively? They don’t set any goals and live life on a meandering basis. They complain about things and expect others to make their life better. You see them 1 year, 3 years, and 5 years from now, and their lives are largely the same, save for a few minor changes that have little to do with them and more to do with their environment. And one day they leave this material world still complaining about things they were unable to accomplish. They let their environment determine their life rather than take control of it.
“You need a plan to build a house. To build a life, it is even more important to have a plan or goal.”
– Zig Ziglar
If you yourself don’t have any goals in life then, you finish ( I have not used the word waste just because it would look harsh ) your life, by accomplishing and fulfilling others goals just because you don’t have any for yourself. And at the end of the life, you would be wondering that what did I do with my life for myself…??? and the answer will be in the form of regret and sorrowfulness.
“The tragedy in life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal.
The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach.”
– Benjamin Mays.
Top-level athletes, successful business-people, and achievers in all fields all set goals. Setting goals gives you long-term vision and short-term motivation. It focuses your acquisition of knowledge and helps you to organize your time and your resources so that you can make the very most of your life.
” Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into visible. “
– Tony Robbins.
Why is it so important to set goals?
“Setting goals is the first step to transform ‘INTANGIBLE’ into ‘TANGIBLE’ ” Here I’ll be sharing a lot of benefits and advantages of ‘Goal Setting’:-
#1: You will be able to track your progress.
Being crystal clear about your priorities and actions will help to keep a track of your progress, also it will help you to manage time and work profitably and will make you more productive rather than just being busy with unusual and unimportant stuff. It would help you to be more effective by helping you in figuring out your ‘HERE’ and ‘THERE’. It will give you a clear idea about Where are you? and Where you desire and deserve to be?
#2: Goals keep distractions away.
If you have goals, you will be able to figure out what’s most important to you, and by knowing it, you will be easily able to avoid distractions. Goals will keep you directed, focused, concentrated on what’s most important to you.
“The great thing in this world is not so much where we are, but in what direction we are moving”
-Oliver Wendell Holmes.
#3: Goals allows us to take control over life:
Goals will help us to take control of life and incidents. If you have goals, you will be able to control your life events. If not your life events will control you- Just because you don’t have your own goals, your own directions where to go, you will need to sail wherever your environment and surrounding leads to. So ‘SET GOALS and TAKE CONTROL over your life’.
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have always imagined”
-Henry David Thoreau
#4: Goals make the decision-making process easier:
Having goals, makes decision making much more easier and simpler. If you are pre-determined to something. Decision making becomes a lot more easier- Just because you are crystal clear about your priorities.
#5: Goals accelerate the rate of achievement:
Goals boost up your work ethic and hence enables us achieving things faster than anyone else having no goals.
” Goals are the fuels in the furnace of achievement.”
#6: Helps you to manage time profitably.
Having a clear, precise set of priorities, makes time management easier and profitable.
“Only a clear goal can help to manage time efficiently and effectively.”
#7: Will make you more disciplined:
Goals will ultimately make you more disciplined, responsible and organized.
“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment”
#8: Goals keep you motivated:
Goals keeps you motivated, by driving you in forward direction towards your dreams. Goals also help you to stay focused and stay directed towards your aim and not wonder like anything on the way of life.
“Unless we can see the rewards, the harvest, we aren’t motivated to plant or to work.
There are two ways to face the future.
1. With APPREHENSION, or
2. With ANTICIPATION.”
-Jim Rohn (The Keys to Success)
#9: Goals keep the charm and zest of life alive:
It is great to have ‘a goal’ rather than having ‘no goal’. Because having a goal makes the journey of life amazing and awesome.
It keeps the charm and zest of life alive. It keeps you inspired, that means, ‘in spirit’. And you too know that whatever is not in spirit is dead.
