Rare are those who keep the passion alive in heart and transform an ordinary life to an extraordinary example.

Finally, today I got a chance to meet an extraordinary amazing woman who has created phenomenal records in biking. Being a biker, my interest in knowing her and learning from her experiences was at the peak. We had a wonderful and interesting discussion, which made me believe that if one has courage to take the first step nobody can stop him/her.
Pallavi Fauzdar, A Biker is the first woman to cross eight mountain passes at heights of over 5,000m in a single journey, and being the first solo female biker to reach the highest motorable point in the world. She received the government’s Nari Shakti Award from the President himself on Women’s Day.
It is very inspiring when we meet somebody who has arisen from the ground, who is just like us- common man, living in the similar circumstances as we are but has achieved something which is beyond everybody’s imagination and expectations.
Pallavi, a mother of two sons, managed to resume her biking after a gap of ten years’ marriage. Oh yes…This is surprising, ten years’ break and then coming back with a bang. Undoubtedly inspirational.
Pallavi Fauzdar, A cheerful person with bright sparkling eyes filled up with brilliance, a gloriously shining face which articulates her immense love for life and a persistent magnificent smile on her face, marked a distinguished presence and a very positive aura around us. Every word came out of her mouth was real inspirational, precious and valuable gemstones.
Here, I take this opportunity to write few of the statements in her own language which are real life lessons to learn.
- You must introspect and redefine your identity
Being a woman, life is altogether different after marriage. Life changes. Everything is somebody else’s in your life, therefore, nothing is your own. You compromise with yourself as a wife, a mother, a daughter in law and in these identities, you forget your real self. You leave a person far behind, and when you look back, you don’t find her, and that’s you.
As time passes the realization of losing your identity starts stirring your soul. The restlessness and tensions increase and in this state of mind, you try to find something which can make you happy. The quest to search yourself starts with this realization. That time your soul knocks your mind to take the first step towards a direction you wish to move and you are ready to take the action. In my case, biking was that soul-rousing indication.
Marriage is not the end of your dreams. It’s beginning of a new inning towards finding yourself.
- Don’t be dependent on somebody’s approval
You probably will not get a support of your surrounding in fulfilling your dreams, you will be criticized to dream something impossible and being a female you will be considered weak to carry out certain tasks. But your inner fight against all odds takes you to the turning point of your life. I faced the same many times but if you have decided not to stop yourself, these criticism helps you to unleash your potential. This makes you more focused and rebellious.
- Welcome challenges
Challenges are challenges, these are not big or small. Being a female, you have to face little more. You can’t waste your energy in trying to change people’s mindset. You can’t alter their mentality. Even in modern society, you can feel the discrimination between a boy and girl. Follow your heart. Be stubborn. Your intellect and intuitions can decide the right and wrong in your life. Choose the right direction for you. Just start moving ahead. Challenges will make you a stronger person. You can’t succeed until you try.
Always make your difficulties your strength. There is no joy in walking on a smooth highway, you will get bored, and you will feel sleepy. A difficult terrain makes you a different person.
When I started my ride, I was not only Pallavi. Though you begin with your search for the own individual identity, but with me, I took every single woman along with me. I was on a mission. I was representing the entire women community. My beginning was for the women rights for “नारी शक्ति”. Moreover, I wanted to make them stronger with my life story.
- Have faith, God has chosen you for a mission
When I did the route survey, I came to know that 29 riders died in this route. Their experience was rich on the other hand mine was not. However, I prepared my mind for everything. Once I sat in front of my two kids and told them with a heavy heart that Mumma is going for a long ride, she may or may not come back. That was indeed the most emotional moment for me.
The route was tough and the rainfall was unbelievable. My fingers froze. My whole body almost turned blue, but by Grace of God, I found a camp nearby and a doctor. After few km. my bike fell down. I was stuck under the bike for 45 minutes, the patrol was flowing from patrol tank, stones were falling from the mountains, any moment the bike can catch fire, but this is said when you have good intentions and clear heart, God helps you. A truck came there and saved me. At one moment, my bike’s brakes failed, but I did not accept to stop at any cost. I knew He was with me. He would take me through.
If you have pulled up your socks for any mission of your life, believe me, God is with you. Have faith in Him. He will never leave you alone. In this journey, He chose me to move forward and I was adamant that I would not take even a step back.
- Hard Work pays
Everything is precious which you receive through hard work. You surely value that. If you get everything easily, you will not understand its worth. It was not easy to travel on that high altitudes. I worked on my physical and mental fitness and my stamina , studied the entire route for months and learned bike mechanics. In the meanwhile, I prepared my kids to live without seeing me for days. There were days when I was out of coverage area and I even could not contact my family. However, I knew that I was on a mission and I had to push my limits to complete this.
- Count your blessing
“अपनी पोटली हमेशा खुली रखो, जहाँ से मिल सके दुआएं लेते चलो”
If there are thousand people who pull you down, there are certainly few hundred people who love you, who want you to be successful. Do well to everybody during this life journey because you never know whose blessing will save you and when. It does not take much just a clean, clear heart and intentions.
My eyes were wide opened to hear this brave heart woman. There were numerous of things to be learned from her, however, the time did not allow as it was 9 PM and we had to move. Indeed it was my pleasure to interact with such a down to earth lady whose achievements despite all odds are exemplary. In hope to have a ride with Pallavi Ma’am, we left the place.
Thank You, Pallavi Mam for your wonderful insights
