New experiences and experiments fill life with a fresh energy. Small pinch of daring adventure in life is rejuvenating. Your heart and mind know what is meant for you and you are meant for what. There is nothing like to experience something new which is different from a routine job, excel sheets, purchasing from a grocery shop, and everyday tasks according to a fixed timetable. Moreover, you never know later on what can lead you to a new path of accomplishment. To illustrate, most of us know that Steve jobs started his calligraphy classed out of his curiosity and that led him to unbelievable peak. Therefore, always be curious and keep experimenting like a small kid.
“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” — Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
Very true Mr. Holmes.
I am sharing an experience with you. (Indeed this too is a real example from my life.)
“But you are not a racer and in fact, this is not for you.” He said to me.
“So what?” I said.
“What is the harm to take any challenge and moreover I don’t like a routine life? I want some experiments, which can give me lifetime memories. Which buzzes my soul. Which make me feel stronger. This is my first ever life experience. I want to take this chance. You know what, when I will be at my last stage of life, I want to have numerous memories and stories with me. Let me collect those. I don’t want a boring end.”
Aren’t you afraid of even thinking all this stuff and what is your driving force to take these experiments?
My adrenalin rush is higher, that directly hits my brain and it creates a “Chull effect”. It’s hormonal influence. What can I do?” I looked and passed a slight smile at him. We laughed loud together, but he was still skeptical.
He smiled and again tried to convince me (though he knew, It would not be possible), “This is not your cup of tea, I am again telling you. Driving a car is different and rushing a car in the Dirt track is different. Moreover, you need a different skill set to perform this.”
“How will I come to know this until I go through it? I agree it requires skill set, I want to explore this. This will be a learning for me.”
“Do you think, you will win?”
Of course, If not much, I will win my confidence, my madness, few memorable moments, probably few like-minded friends and a story.
“So you have made up your mind. No matter what happens but you will go for this.”
“Undoubtedly, by all means.”
“You are stubborn.” He said
“Thank You.” (With a smile and wink).
The first time, there was a Dirt track racing in the city. This was the first ever experiment for the organizers, for sponsors to create this event and make it happen a big success. I and my friend decided to participate in this event. 23rd and 24th April 2016 were the event dates.
The organizers started broadcasting this event a month back and every participant needed to register their names along with the vehicle details within 15 days, but due to the dilemma of family members, they kept on postponing our registration in hope to change our minds.
On 23rd, we went for our registration and scrutiny of our vehicles. There was a big crowd at the registration venue and people from other cities were also there to participate. We were participating in autocross (Four wheeler category). I had Swift VDI and my friends had Hyundai i-10. We saw heavy machine there liked Thar, Scorpio, XUV, Fortuner, and much more. We spoke to many people there. Many of them were professional racers and many times they had participated in this kind of events.
People who had gone through the registration process and scrutiny of their vehicles were attempting different stunts with their cars(though that was not a stunt show), showing strange attitude, generating such booming sound with their engines and showing their drifts skills.
Immediately, I and my friend looked at each other and nodded our heads as if we passed a message through eyes. “No worries, we will do.”
There was a long queue at the registration desk. We waited for some time. In the meantime, we thought to talk to people there.
“Have you done it before?” we asked a guy there.
“Of course.” He replied
“Is it difficult?” I asked
“Nothing is difficult and everything is difficult, finally, the choice is yours in which direction you drive your brain.
We mean, is it risky practically?
He said, Certainly. Sometimes your vehicle gets overturned. In the loose dirt, if you are not able to control especially on the turns and sharp edges because most of the turns on the track are almost u-turns.
We took a deep breath and again communicated through our facial and eye expressions “Without a doubt, we will do it.”
We registered ourselves in ladies open category, though I wanted to participate in “under 1500 CC” because in open category all kinds of cars would be there on the track and it would not be wise to compete with 1900 cc. and more.
But she won the argument and we registered ourselves for our first ever life experience of Autocross Dirt track. The team scrutinized our cars and draped with various promotional props. Of course, the sponsors would require us to do that.
While roaming around my friend was standing keeping her elbow on my shoulder, crossing her legs, chewing her nail, staring at the big toys and said me “Yaar gaadi kuch chothi nahi rah gayi humari?” (Our car is smaller than the others, don’t you think so?”)
I literally glowered at her and said “Ab kuch nahi ho sakta, chalo. Ab jo hoga wo track par hoga.” (Nothing can happen now, now we will see what happens on track.)
On the same evening, we went to have an idea about the track. That was a track of approximate 2.1 km long, covered with loose sand and mud all over with deep dug ditches. We wanted to have a trail run but as that was dusk and the track demarcation was still incomplete at few patches, so we could not do that.
We were excited for this interminable experience of our life.
Next day, On 24th April 2016, we reached at the dirt location sharp by 8 am. Most of the participants had reached there, they were performing their stunts, many were practicing with their cars and bikes (Motocross was also there), few were talking to each other and sharing their experience, few were motivating people, few were literally demotivating others. There were dust fumes all over. It was a hot day and the environment became hotter with crazy, loud and roaring sounds of vehicles.
The race started by 11 AM, different category wise.
We pop on our helmet and buckled our seat belts. Our heart was pounding with excitement. Honestly, speaking for a moment, fear overpowered me. Immediately I closed my eyes, scolded my mind and threw that fear out. I said to myself. “Do it.”
I kept my foot on the accelerator and banished all my thoughts for some time. I forgot everything, just the track, and accelerator. That moment all chaos, the mental chatter was muted. I was totally absorbed in the moments. These were meditative moments for me when I focused, concentrated my mind then and there.
During the race my glove box got opened and all the stuff started coming out and I lost my focus for few milliseconds and the speed automatically slowed down. I immediately closed the glove box and collected my focus again.
At one point in time, I lost the sight due to dust and climbed the car on the wayside of the track. There were sandbanks for demarcation of the track. That moment my car was approximate at 45 degrees from the ground and was about to overturn. I anyhow controlled and managed that and came back to the main track.
Just a few seconds later I was at the finished line. As soon as I stopped the car I was dumbstruck that I did it. Few people came to me and said you did a wonderful job. You did it like a pro. I couldn’t believe it. I was more than happy to complete this successfully.
We waited until all the category race is over. We actually did not know the results but somehow we believed that we would stand somewhere. I and my friend both were very hopeful.
After a long wait, finally, the jury announced the results. Our hearts were thumping very fast.
And the first runner-up is….Prachi Jain…..
A moment of pride for me, mixed with astonishment and happiness. That was a big achievement for me. I did something new, altogether different what I used to do. I was just four seconds slower than the lady who stood at first and a National level champion of Dirt track racing.
I received a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 5000 /-. (I spent in car servicing.)
My friend was the second runner-up.
I realized that moment nothing is actually impossible if you have promised yourself to make it possible. You will work for it, you will find the different ways and you will put all your energy into it.But that affirmation is a must.
Whatever you want to do, just do it.Believe me, once you determine yourself, nothing is impossible. I don’t say that success is guaranteed, however, the astonishing happiness of trusting the self is guaranteed.
We get life only once, Do whatever thrills your spirit and collect a lot of real stories from your life. This will keep you forever young.
