The theme of this year’s International Women’s day being celebrated today is
#Be bold for change#
Let’s discuss what should we do, to salute the panache, attitude, spirit and strength of women as daughters, sisters, better halves, mothers, and highlight the incredible powers of these awesome women.
Save and protect the girl child
The first and foremost thing that we need to spread awareness about, is to welcome the girl child happily. The mother to be and father should take good care and protect her.
Educate the girl.
Girls should be given all the freedom to pursue the courses of their choice and choose their careers accordingly.
Give equal opportunities.
Parents should not differentiate between a son and daughter when it comes to giving freedom and all opportunities to allow them to bloom fully.
Respect the dignity of women.
The following verse from “Manusmriti’
’यत्र नार्यस्तु पूज्यन्ते रमन्ते तत्र देवताः ।
यत्रैतास्तु न पूज्यन्ते सर्वास्तत्राफलाः क्रियाः ॥
Which means ‘The divine are extremely happy where women are respected;
Where they are not, all actions are fruitless. ‘
This is most relevant today than any other time, because society is decaying, as a result of women being looked upon as objects of satisfying lust. Remember, act with respect towards women every single day, not just on March 8.
She is special as a daughter, sister, wife, and mother.
A woman wears many hats during her lifetime. She is an embodiment of love, devotion, responsibility, sincerity in all her roles.
Express your appreciation.
Tell a woman what she means to you. This could be your boss, a family member, or any other woman.Recognize her talents, and encourage her. You should tell her why she is important and all the things she does well. And be sure to look her straight in the eye when you do so. If she has a big day coming up–a job interview, a presentation at work–send her a message of encouragement and support. Make her birthday memorable.
Go out of the way to help her.
Help out a female friend or family member. This can be anything from taking care of your sister’s children for the evening, so she has a chance to relax, to helping a colleague during her illness.
Consider making a pledge to an important woman in your life that you will continue to help her out throughout the year, be it your mother by doing your chores without her having to ask repeatedly, or taking on half of the cooking and housework from your wife. When the wife is also going out for a job, it is imperative for her husband to share the household responsibilities equally.
Be thankful to her.
Thank the women in your life. Don’t just tell them why they are important, thank them for being there for you and for doing what they do. This could be as simple as thanking your mother for helping to raise you or thanking a female friend for helping out during tough times in your life.
Make a list of all of the positive female influences in your life, like your mother, grandmother, school teachers, college professors, and co-workers. By making this list, you will begin to see the positive contributions women have made to your life. Express your gratitude to these women who have made a positive impact.
DO speak up for women if you see that a woman’s being harassed.
The main reason why women continue to be oppressed is that people prefer to remain silent and indifferent onlookers when women are harassed. Raise your voice and speak up for them, others will join you soon.
Mention that it’s International Women’s Day to people you know, your family, your coworkers, your friends. Discuss with them why it’s an important day and why it’s important to treat women with respect and to acknowledge their contributions to society.
Give her quality time.
In the mad rush for wealth, .we forget to spare time for our near and dear ones, especially women. Sit down with her, listen to all that she has to say, and see things from her point of view.
Respect her parents and siblings.
Treat her family well. Even if she says that she’s not close with her family, always be respectful towards them and avoid criticizing them. Family bonds can be strong, and parents and siblings can influence a woman’s temperament.
A word for women.
Finally a parting advice for women. Today it’s your day, but remember to uphold your self-esteem, dignity with sincerity of purpose, so that no one can dare to point a finger at you.Never let any of the legal clauses made for the safety of women be misused. Your strength is the strength of your character, never under any circumstances make compromises on it. I would like to conclude with the words of William Golding “I think women are foolish to pretend they are equal to men, they are far superior and always have been.”
